Childermass/Segundus - au Childermass is Segundus' servent

(Anonymous) 2015-06-17 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Young Segundus uses his modest income to hires a servant and man of business - Childermass, to help him find magical books.
Segundus is naive, optimistic and always in state of wonder when magic is concerned - so he is in fact a perfect target for all sort of impostors and frauds. Childermass is there to make sure nobody will hurt his precious master.

Raven King/Gilbert Norrell - deity/apostate

(Anonymous) 2015-06-17 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Because Norrell's been in love with him for almost all his life, after all--though he's been bitter and jealous and untrue. Being with a god can't be easy. :3 I would love some Raven King/Norrell where Norrell breaks down in the face of the king he's renounced. What on earth will John Uskglass do with his poor little pawn?

Stephen Black/Emma Pole - Fairy Orgy

(Anonymous) 2015-06-18 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Surely more than dancing goes on at the parties at Lost-Hope. I would love some dubious Stephen/Emma where they're both forced into a Lost-Hope fairy orgy, and would rather touch each other than be touched by anyone else.

Bonus points if there's a sense from either or both of them that this is something they might've been interested in before this, and feel conflicted about the circumstances in which it's happening.

Extra bonus points if the Gentleman totally loves the idea that as a king, Stephen ought to have a beautiful queen, and wants to direct every smallest detail of their consummation.

Re: Stephen Black/Emma Pole - Fairy Orgy

Seconded. I totally want to see Stephen's conscience shattered in the most depraved way possible.

Stephen/The Gentleman

(Anonymous) 2015-06-18 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Stephen does not meet the Gentleman, but instead the Gentleman notices him, when Stephen takes noticing of the stories Lady Pole says and discovers they are fairy tales. With his smarts, Stephen discovers a way to enter the mind of Lady Pole and does what no magician ever done before, by entering the fairy world through another person. That gets the Gentleman's attention. Bonus: Lady Pole is protective of Stephen.

Stephen/Emma Pole friendship.

Strange/Norrell - World War I

(Anonymous) 2015-06-18 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
At the end of the book, Norrell mentions that the Pillar of Darkness might last as much as 100 years, which would mean that they would reemerge in England around 1917, right in the middle of World War I. What with Strange's wartime experiences already being an issue, not to mention whatever codependency issues they probably developed over a hundred years (one assumes for the sake of the story not ageing) together, I really want to see these two men returning to find England in the middle of a new and far more terrible war, made all the worse and more complicated by magicians on both sides. I would love to see this as an established relationship, and the only point of familiarity for them in the face of a world utterly changed.

Re: Strange/Norrell - World War I

(Anonymous) 2015-06-18 10:20 am (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, I love this prompt! WWI is far from my remit, but I hope someone more familiar tackles it. Codependent Strange/Norrell is definitely relevant to my interests.

Childermass/Segundus - au rich!Childermass, as many sexual puns as you want

(Anonymous) 2015-06-18 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
Childermass became - thanks to some scams and quick thinking, quite rich. So he did what every sensible person would do in his position and that is - bought nice house, hired some servants and started annoying other rich people with his extravagance.
All his neighbors are really outraged that such a person is now living next to them and they've decided to never visit him or invite him too any parties.

The only gentleman that visits Childermass at first is Segundus (who was too engrossed in his books to get a memo that his new neighbor is not a respectable person). So he visits him to be polite, is amazed by Childermass' house and library and kind of finds himself strangely affected by Childermass' dark and dangerous appearance.

-big plus if poor Segundus doesn't even know that he is into men. He just thought he is more of a scholarly type so that is why he was never interested in any of the Ladies he met. Childermass discovers that he can make as many barely descent comments as he wants because Segundus won't really get them (especially when they are talking about magic). At the beginning it's fun but with time it kind of makes Childermass more and more sexually frustrated ;)

Fill: Strange/Grant - Clothed Sex

(Anonymous) 2015-06-20 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
It had been an odd and bloody sort of day, all told, and somewhat beyond everything Grant had been prepared for. The hours that followed the battle were a new and desperate kind of chaos, and the uppermost thought in Grant's mind throughout that time was that he must continue to be useful - although he had to admit that he did not feel quite himself.

It was inevitable, then, when roughly three hours after hostilities ceased, Grant had lost enough blood and had become so exhausted that it seemed prudent to sit down for a little while, immediately and somewhat accidentally, against the nearest wall.

"Will you please go and lie down properly," snapped Strange, without meeting his eyes. He was caked with mud and other people's blood and underneath that Grant could tell that he was profoundly and almost inhumanly grey. A lot of people Grant knew and liked we're not alive anymore, but here was Merlin, like a good omen, like a charm, Merlin who hadn't left his side since they'd found each other in the courtyard of that burned-out house.

"Yes," said Grant, "sorry," but he found he could not move his legs. He hated things not going as he wanted them to, so he stood up anyway, in spite of every muscle in his body shouting at him to stop, bloody STOP, and then everything went beautifully quiet.

It was a blackout of only seconds, but the next thing Grant knew, Strange was holding him up by the underarms with horribly naked concern written all over his face. "Come now," was all he said, and very quietly at that.

Grant apologised. "I'm all right," he said, pulling himself away in order to stand unaided. "I am all right. Thank you."

Strange did not tell him to rest again, but he kept by his side for the remainder of the day, supporting Grant sometimes as he made his rounds and spoke to men who had need of him - but so discreetly that even the men in question did not notice his assistance.

It was late and dark by the time they got inside something that even vaguely resembled a tent. Strange pushed Grant into a camp bed in all of his clothes and looked at him for a moment, stood over him, pulling his hair back from his eyes with a gesture that was nervous rather than useful. Grant watched him from where he lay.

"I'm glad to see you finally in bed," said Strange, though in truth he was not looking at him anymore.

He looked about to go when Grant said, "Do you know Merlin, I honestly believed for hours that you must be dead." It didn't sound very much like his own voice to his ears. He was awfully tired but mostly he felt a desperate, incipient loneliness at the thought of Strange leaving him here to go to sleep alone in the dark. The tent was half broken on one side, flapping wetly in the light rain that was falling, lit by a stump of a candle at the side of the bed that Grant knew would soon burn itself out. He was a brave man, but tonight, just once, he could not bear the thought of it.

Strange did not say anything, but he met Grant's eyes, and woozy, exhausted, Grant held up a hand towards him. Strange reached out and gripped it with surprising force, then made as if to let go, but Grant laced their fingers together before he could. Strange did not pull away, and they stayed like this for a few moments, nothing in the tent but the sound of their breathing and the rain on the canopy above them. Grant wanted to ask him not to leave, but he could not find the words, he could not find the place inside himself where they might live, so instead he tugged, gently, once, on Strange's hand, and Strange stepped closer to the bed.

He tugged again. Strange knelt on the side of the camp bed and it creaked, ominously, once. The wind blew hard against the broken side of the tent, surprisingly hard for summer, but it was late at night now, Grant had no idea how late, and quite abruptly the candle blew out and they were alone together in the darkness.

Nothing else happened for a moment, and then Grant pulled again once more on Strange's hand, and felt him unbalance, relent, he could feel the muscles underneath his fingertips working just as Strange's mind was working but he did not care, all Grant knew was that he could not be alone.

The weight of Strange settled against him in the bed, smelling of dry mud and stale rain and fear-sweat, and something underneath that was so familiar, it almost took Grant away from the war, back to Strange's house in London. But all that seemed another world entirely now.

Grant felt a sigh of breath against his face that meant he was being looked at. He opened his eyes, which had adjusted to the darkness enough now that he could see Strange, close enough for him to reach out and touch. But Grant realised that he could not do this: their fingers were still linked, oddly, Strange's arm thrown across his chest, his own other arm trapped where Strange had lain down.

Grant dragged his thumb across Strange's knuckles and somehow that was it, that was the thing, and with the suddenness and the inevitability of a storm breaking, he felt Strange's mouth against his own. He let their fingers drop and buried his free hand in Strange's hair, tugging gently. Strange made a sound against his mouth that was not quite normal, and then pushed him back against the bed, held him there, and Grant wanted to say, I wasn't planning on leaving, where would I go.

He palmed Strange's jaw, tongue in his mouth, the rain making a sound on the thick wet canopy of their tent that made it feel almost private, intimate, except for somebody shouting not so far away, but Grant didn't care, it wasn't his problem now, not for a little while at least. He freed his other arm as Strange pulled back long enough to breathe hard and shuddering, then pressed his face into the place where Grant's neck and shoulder met, pulling at his shirt so hard that Grant heard the snap of buttons coming away. Strange murmured, "Are you okay, are you...?" which Grant assumed was supposed to draw attention to his own minor head wound. He didn't care about it particularly much.

In answer, Grant grabbed Strange's collar and pulled his face back up to his own, kissing him again, and then he felt Strange's hand upon his hip, his thigh, undoing the buttons of his trousers. He was hard already. So was Strange, and Grant bucked up against him, too desperate and too exhausted to make it last and just needing the release of it, to think about his body again as though it belonged to him, not as a damaged thing or as properly of the British Army.

"Ah, ah," Strange muttered, hissing as Grant slipped a hand inside his trousers. They moved in tandem, the two of them, Strange biting Grant's shoulder to keep from making a noise that might be audible outside the tent. Grant had his head tipped back, seeing the blackness of the canopy above them, then the blackness of the insides of his own eyelids and then, after only a minute or so, stars.

Seconds later, Grant felt an answering wetness upon his own palm as Strange came too, with a choked out noise he did his best to swallow down. Somehow, hearing it was more strange and intimate than anything else about the things they had just done together.

They lay side-by-side in the small uncomfortable bed as their breathing evened out. Grant felt that Strange wanted to speak, and waited for it, dreading the moment he would excuse himself and Grant would be left alone.

At length, Strange said, "Wake me if your head troubles you in the night?"

"Yes," said Grant, unspeakably relieved and heavy with tiredness. "Of course." Then everything was quiet and still.

(Written at haste, sorry, but awkward consequences hopefully following soon...)

The Return of the King (Another take on Raven King!Childermass)

(Anonymous) 2015-06-18 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The Raven King returns to England following the end of the novel, and resumes his rule at Newcastle. By the time Strange and Norrell return from their stay in the Pillar of Darkness, his reign is well-established once again and English magic has returned in full.
This would be all well and good, if the Raven King were not also, very openly, John Childermass. How do Strange and Norrell deal with a world where all they have worked for has come to fruition, and not entirely in the way they would have preferred? And how does Norrell deal with the fact that the Raven King was right in front of him the whole time and he didn't notice?
Bonus points for:
- Very little about Childermass and his behaviour has changed much with the revelation of his true identity. This only makes things more confusing for Norrell.

Childermass/Norrell - denial

(Anonymous) 2015-06-18 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
When Childermass wakes up after being shot, Norrell is busy being pissed at him for many reasons, and he vocalize them all except for the only one he cannot say: that he was scared to lose Childermass.
Unfortunately for him, seeing the one he loves laying in his bed and bare-chested does wonders to his brain and his body. Childermass definitely notices that, and decides to act upon it.

Bonus if Norrell was sure Childermass didn't know about his crush on him, when actually Childermass knew all along.

Childermass/Norrell - Temporary Blindness and Trust Issues

(Anonymous) 2015-06-19 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
I really want to read about a spell that goes wrong early in their acquaintance, rendering Norrell temporarily blind. Cue Norrell's immediate panic attack at the prospect of never reading again (and other things, but mostly reading), and Childermass having to take even greater charge of Norrell than usual. Bonus points if this leads to Childermass reading to Norrell, and Norrell finding himself painfully attracted to Childermass' voice. Even more bonus points for assistance leading to way more touching than Norrell is used to, which is just as overwhelming and attractive as Childermass' voice (sex optional, but would be AMAZING). All the bonus points in the world if this situation is part of what made Childermass as loyal as he is.

Post-apocalyptic AU - return of the Raven King

(Anonymous) 2015-06-19 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
Is this weird? This feels weird. BUT there is this footnote in the novel that I love to bits, dealing with "the commonly-held belief that all ruined buildings belong to the Raven King" and it made me want more:

All of Man’s works, all his cities, all his empires, all his monuments will one day crumble to dust. Even the houses of my own dear readers must –though it be for just one day, one hour be ruined and become houses where the stones are mortared with moonlight, windowed with starlight and furnished with the dusty wind. It is said that in that day, in that hour, our houses become the possessions of the Raven King. Though we bewail the end of English magic and say it is long gone from us and inquire of each other how it was possible that we came to lose something so precious, let us not forget that it also waits for us at England's end and one day we will no more be able to escape the Raven King than, in this present Age, we can bring him back.

Someone please write me this world. It can be a modern AU, or perhaps something happened not long after the end of the novel to cause England's end. Magical accident? Angry powerful fairy? The lord of Hell coming to collect a debt? It's up to you anon.

Slashiness not necessary, but any and all pairings are go if you feel like it.

This prompt should have gotten more attention. It is such a charming idea with a natural structure. Maybe we are all just stymied by the challenge of unraveling the mysteries of Vinculus.

Childermass/various, sex for favours

(Anonymous) 2015-06-20 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Childermass uses sex to manipulate people.

For example: He sleeps with Norrell to ensure that he may continue to take liberties, with Strange to get close to the second known magician, with Segundus to ensure his compliance, with Stephen to get information about what happened to Lady Pole.

(Bonus points if Childermass is demisexual and views these encounters as strictly pertaining to business.)

Childermass/Segundus prostitution au

(Anonymous) 2015-06-20 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Pre-book. John Segundus is quite poor... and when I say poor I mean POOR. He desperately needs money so he turns to the oldest profession to put bread on the table. Childermass sees him in one of the establishments where gentlemen go when they want to buy some company and decides to "hire" Segundus for one night. Only he kind of keeps getting back for more.

Segundus/Childermass - ruined

(Anonymous) 2015-06-21 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Not going to even pretend to be subtle about this. I need a fic with Childermess basically turning Segundus into a quivering, frustrated, desperate wreck and then finishing him off in an appropriately debauched manner when poor Mr Segundus finally gives in and admits how badly he needs it.

Lascelles/Drawlight

(Anonymous) 2015-06-21 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty, pretty book!Drawlight trying to get some money to pay his debts from Lascelles by the world's oldest way. Lascelles knows exactly what is Drawlight trying to do and is really amused, however, he don't find Drawlight entertaining enough to actually help him.
Give me poor, heartbroken Drawlight and passive-aggressive asshole Lascelles.

Childermass/Segundus - attraction, slow build (wooing?)

(Anonymous) 2015-06-21 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Childermass didn't think much of John Segundus. Although his refusal of signing the Norrell's contract was interesting, it was the only act of the resistance Segundus have ever done and Childermass thought Segundus is just another shy, nervous, even fearful schoolar, absolutely uninteresting, until Sedundus, visibly frightened but intransigent, refused to let Childermass question Lady Pole.
There was something about the last theoretical magician.
+bonus if Childermass will try just seduce Segundus but he won't submit easily.

Strange & Childermass

(Anonymous) 2015-06-22 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
Something happens that brings Childermass to Venice and he sees Jonathan inside the tower of darkness and does something to comfort him, or care for him (in the show canon, the darkness seems to be having a deleterious effect on Jonathan's health). Shippy or not, whatever you like, but it would be awesome for Jonathan to show his respect and esteem for Childermass; speaking to him openly about the magic that he performed, and asking for his guidance. Childermass being horrified and concerned but also staunch and strong a huge plus.

One-sided Lascelles/Childermass

(Anonymous) 2015-06-22 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Norrell has gone on one of his dreadfully dull tangents, which is occasionally interrupted by Childermass making his opinions on matters known and giving advice. In the background sits Lascelles, spinning elaborate fantasies about how he'd love to put Childermass "in his place".

Bonus points if the Childermass in his mind is hilariously OOC.

Childermass/Segundus - established relationship, Segundus is kidnapped by faeries

(Anonymous) 2015-06-22 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
Childermass and Segundus are in a very difficult stage of relationship where Childermass doesn't really know how to be an attentive lover and Segundus learns (slowly and with great pain) how to not except too much commitment from him.
One day some faerie Lord sees sad Segundus after Childermass cancel yet another meeting and decides to take John with him to his lovely palace to look after him the way his estranged lover never knew how (so he kidnaps him faerie style and force him to be his "guest" but without non-con pls).

Childermass discovers what happened and goes to faerie to free his lover. In the process he discovers how much he really cares about Segundus (this comes as a shock to him because he always thought that that they are just sleeping with each other and sometimes talking about magic on long walks and dine together and...ok so they were practically married).

Childermass/Segundus post book, mr Honeyfoot as a machmaker

(Anonymous) 2015-06-22 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
Childermass keeps visiting Segundus and mr Honeyfoot quite frequently and mr Honeyfoot thinks he know why is that.
He decides to "help" his friend by creating all sort of situations where Segundus ends up alone with Childermass.

- big plus if after every time they are alone Childermass emerges smug and happy and Segundus a bit disheveled and completely red and mr Honeyfoot still thinks they need his help to "finally get together".
