Childermass/Segundus - post canon whump and h/c

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
One day after the events of book/tv series Vinculus shows up at Starecross Hall with badly hurt Childermass. Maybe he got sick or hurt doing magic? Or it's illness/injury caused by mundane means? But it's something that requires Childermass to stay at Starecross Hall for longer period of time (wounds get infected/they have to find counter spell/there are other complications - high fever/hallucinations etc). During that time Secundus and Childermass get closer and finally get together.

Magic a la Ronde

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
We know magicians can sense one another's presence. When magicians are in a state of extreme emotional arousal, and they physically touch one another, their magical sensibilities react accordingly, and sparks fly. Inspired by Schnitzler's play, La Ronde.

Six scenes involving pairings of all six English magicians (Norrell, Strange, Childermass, Vinculus, Segundus, Honeyfoot), in any order, under whatever emotional duress the writer likes (intellectual excitement, madness, fury, tenderness, lust), making physical contact which leads to a magical effect symbolic of the combined natures of the two magicians involved.

Can be dark, funny, sexual, confusing, or whatever the writer likes. Bonus points for a non-con, because I'm pervy that way, and I'm partial to a bit of Childermass/Strange, so it would be great if they could appear together somewhere in the magical circle jerk. Another bonus point if Norrell is already aware of this as a theoretical possibility.

Lascelles/Segundus, Childermass to the rescue (non-con; h/c)

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Lascelles comes across Segundus in a coffee house in Fleet Street on a gloomy January evening. As part of his long term goal of eliminating Norrell's competition, he lures poor daft Segundus into the labyrinthine alleys behind the coffee house, and attempts to murder him, intending to pass it off as a mugging. Childermass, who has followed Lascelles to the coffee house because he doesn't trust the slimy git and wants to see what he's up to, chases him off, and comforts a mortified Segundus.

Bonus points if Childermass sees Segundus safely back to his lodgings, and then gives him a few tips on safety when cruising, and Segundus denies he was doing any such thing, insisting he has no interest in the intimate company of men. Double bonus points if Childermass calls him on his bullshit, and gives him a (reciprocated) snog on account.

Gentleman with Thistledown Hair/Jonathan Strange (dub-con)

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Strange will do anything - anything - if the Gentleman will release his wife. The Gentleman takes him up on his offer, right there on the floor of the ballroom at Lost-Hope, in front of all the dancers, including Arabella and Lady Pole, and Stephen.

Saddle-sore Childermass

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Childermass has been riding non-stop for days, and retuns to Hurtfew exhausted and saddle-sore. Sympathetic for a change, Norrell experiments with a healing charm, but it swells Childermass' testicles up to the size of watermelons. Hilarity ensues!

Pole Dancing (Sir Walter Pole)

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Sir Walter, not his good wife. It all goes horribly wrong at a society ball. A variation on the red shoes trope, courtesy of the Gentleman, who has a twisted sense of humour, and wants to publicly humiliate Sir Walter to punish Norrell's rudeness to him after he was so kind as to resurrect Lady Pole. Strange and Norrell attempt to break the charm. Yes, it is all about the title. Gentlemanly h/c from his bosom buddy Strange would be nice.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Faerie is a lonely place, and Stephen Black has difficulty adjusting - I would love him meeting fellow (half) human faerie king Simonelli and Simonelli being either a good or bad influence on Stephen as Stephen learns to reconcile his humanity and human experience with his newfound inhumanity and growingly divergent experience from the lives of the human beings he's known and cared about.

Norrell(/Childermass*) -- Repeating Time

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahah, so this has been going through my head on-and-off for a little while now. I haven't got all the details, but the outline is this:

Either Norrell finds a way to repeat time at will (likely through a spell or due to a circumstance post-book/series, though that has its own difficulties) or he's caught in a time loop, repeating a day/moment over and over. Depending on which, he either chooses to repeat something or several somethings in an effort to come to a better conclusion, or he's forced to relive something repeatedly, perhaps initially unable to understand where he's going wrong or why he can't break free of it.

*Additional/Bonus: I'd love it if it was Childermass/Norrell, and/or Childermass plays a large part of the time Norrell repeats, but I am perfectly happy with events also considering the treatment of (for example) Strange, hindsight on Lascelles, etc etc. So with that in mind, I'll leave it to any kind fillers to decide on the extent or appearance of any C/N.

Re: Norrell(/Childermass*) -- Repeating Time

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I've written a Groundhog Day fic in another fandom, and the idea would work well for Norrell, because the poor dear is so woefully/hilariously oblivious and lacking in insight. If I were writing it, definitely slash (C/N OTP: I can see N having a regard/attraction to JS, but Childermass is the one he's trusted and let into his life for years). But I would explore the other characters as well (I realised recently that I saw book!Drawlight as sociopathic due to things like hurling someone's pet cat out of a third-floor window, but the TV version comes across as merely venal and cowardly without that cold-bloodedness. It's a good example of how changing media can make a character different because of what they leave out)

I'm in the middle of the Story that Ate my Week (filthy Childermass/Norrell, complete with weird happy ending), so I'd love to see someone else take this up. If it's still un-bitten in a few weeks I'd consider it myself, although I'm not sure if it's a good idea for me to go scattering Groundhog Day fics in my various fandoms.

Strange/Norrell (or Strange&Norrell), Cohabitation

(Anonymous) 2015-07-12 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Mr Norrell was most disappointed to learn that Strange's education must be interrupted for a day or two while he and Arabella sought for a house to live in. "It is his wife that is the problem," Mr Norrell explained to Drawlight, with a sigh. "Had he been a single man, I dare say he would not have objected to coming and living here with me."

So let's posit that Jonathan is a single man and indeed has no objection to moving in with Mr Norrell. I want all the domestic fluff about learning to live in close quarters with another person.

Slash preferred, but fluffy friendship gen would be welcome also.

Re: Strange/Norrell (or Strange&Norrell), Cohabitation

I need every single bit of this in my life! I love domestic fic, and I love the notion of Strange and Norrell attempting it (and failing, probably). And slash between them is always wonderful!

Childermass/Segundus (+Segundus/OC) - postbook

(Anonymous) 2015-07-13 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
There is a new member of society of magician and he is very much interested in Segundus. Childermass is not happy about it. Especially that Segundus doesnt seem to mind new magician attention.

Childermass/Norrell (or Childermass & Norrell) - Protective Childermass

(Anonymous) 2015-07-13 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
While many of Norrell's flaws are of his own making and his own fault, a lot of his social anxiety springs from his family, whose surviving representatives are all nasty pieces of work (cousins, aunts, uncles, parents, siblings - whoever the author is feeling like writing). Maybe Childermass doesn't believe they could be that that bad at first (Norrell being legendary for blowing things out of proportion and acting like a victim when no one is after him), only to be proven wrong, or believes it straight off the bat, but either way he sets out to keep Norrell from having to interact with his relatives through a series of increasingly elaborate plots.

Basically, I want Childermass protecting Norrell from his relatives and the world. Whether or not Norrell knows it or recognizes it is up to the author. Slash is 100% optional, but would be a treat.

Re: Childermass/Norrell (or Childermass & Norrell) - Protective Childermass

Childermass/arabella hurt/comfort

(Anonymous) 2015-07-13 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I have this scene in my head that I can't get any further with that childermass, after norrell and strange disappear into the black tower, goes and finds arabella in Venice either as a means to console each other with their loss or to aide her in her magical studies.

They're both in mourning of a sorts, and maybe there is a reconciliation between them as to what occurred, but I just want some angst and vulnerable childermass having to readjust.

Gimme all the feels people.

Strange/Norrell - Magically Irresistable

(Anonymous) 2015-07-13 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
As Strange and Norrell are essentially two halves of English magic, when they meet their magics immediately recognize one another and proceed to get extremely friendly. Cue energy mixing, blurring, and two magical auras furiously getting it on while their respective owners are struck both breathless and embarrassed. Their working together therefore becomes an extended effort for them not to take after thier magic.

Basically give me Norrell and Strange's magic having constant, ecstatic sex, and the two magicians trying, and ultimately failing, not to follow suit.

Strange/Segundus, any

(Anonymous) 2015-07-14 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
One cannot help but be in thrall with Jonathan when one meets him, and Segundus is no exception.

Haven't seen a prompt just for these two. I've always liked the fact that they remained close friends (at least in the book) after meeting each other and bonding over magic. Anything that features their interactions, how Arabella fits into the picture, their continuing correspondence, how Segundus comes to write Jonathan's biography, etc. Of course even just a pwp would do!

Re: Strange/Segundus, any

(Anonymous) 2015-07-14 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think I've seen one either, which is odd because I agree - they would be wonderful together. Segundus is very attuned to magical atmospheres and he would absolutely glow around Strange. I'd like to see him visit Jonathan after the war, when Strange is still PTSD-ing. Maybe he can help him calm down a bit.

Norrell the Cougar - Norrell/Strange, Norrell/Childermass, Norrell/Everybody

(Anonymous) 2015-07-14 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
As the result of another "spell gone bad," Norrell's libido goes from 0 to overheating in an instant. As a result NO ONE is safe - even Arabella gets hit on. I just want to read about Norrell being really, really eager but his sexual advances being awkward and cringe-worthy beyond belief.

Whether everyone is scared to death and trying to avoid being in the same room with him, or whether someone finally takes pity on him and indulges his newly-discovered needs, I leave up to the author.

Re: Norrell the Cougar - Norrell/Strange, Norrell/Childermass, Norrell/Everybody

(Anonymous) 2015-07-14 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
I would kill to see Jonathan's reaction to Arabella being hit on by Norrell. I would also kill to see Childermass' reaction to Norrell trying to cosy up to Lascelles. In fact, I can't think of a flaw in this excellent prompt. OMG - I just thought - what about poor tied-up Lady Pole?!

Childermass/Other Fairy

(Anonymous) 2015-07-14 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Childermass explores the world of Fairy and runs across a particular fairy which has a taste for the dark, looming, and masculine sort of men. This fairy also makes an attempt to collect as many of them as they can.

Something about Childermass either evading or succumbing (not without a fight) to the fairy's attempts.

Other characters are fine to butt in, and are in fact encouraged!

Childermass/Segundus - arranged marriage au

(Anonymous) 2015-07-14 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Arranged marriage au - because every fandom needs one:
Childermass, a commoner who got quite rich, knows that he needs a way to be more respectable if he wants to do business with some gentlemen from London. The perfect solution is to marry somebody with respectable name and no money. When he hears about Segundus, gentleman from good family that after his father's death was left penniless he knows he found somebody just desperate enough to help him with his plan.

At the beginning they marriage is a catastrophe - because Segundus is just a boring timid mouse that Childermass had to marry to ensure his business success and Segundus doesn't really care about dark thug he had to marry, he just wanted to pay off his family debts to make sure their name is well respected.

One day somebody (Lascelle prbably) says some shit about Raven King, Segundus quickly shows what he thinks about this kind of talk about the best magicians in the history of English magic and Childermass discovers his husband is neither timid not boring when he cares about something deeply.

Childermass/many (dub-con?), fantasy exploration

(Anonymous) 2015-07-14 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Norrell finds a spell to claiming to let the subject discover what others think of him. However, the source is a bit unpredictable, and he wishes to test it out on Childermass. (1)

The result is that Childermass is sucked into other people's fantasies of him, some delightful (Segundus), some less so (Lascelles) (2)

(1) or Childermass casts it himself, not that he cares what others think of him, particularly.

(2) bonus points if the spell was cast to discover what others thought of Mr. Norrell, and has Childermass playing the part of the repressed magician. (oh, no! my books, Mr. Strange! Oh, deary me, I've never done this sort of thing before...)

Strange/The Gentleman (dub-con, ... non-con?)

(Anonymous) 2015-07-14 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
To begin with, Strange cannot see or hear the gentleman each time he summons him, but the gentleman is free to interact however he pleases.

And, eventually, bored of being summoned again and again, the Gentleman decides to have a little fun, at Jonathan Strange's expense. Nasty fun. The kind that might end up with John's face feeling sticky and having no idea why.

the level of consent is up to the author? Just Strange having no idea what's going on. k thnx im trash

I thought *I* came up with Regrettable Ideas, but, Invisible Fairy Bukkake is new even to me (also: poor Jonathan!)

Friends of English Magic and The Famulus - Bickering Publications

(Anonymous) 2015-07-14 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
No pairing in this prompt, sorry. I would love to read excerpts from a particularly bitchy issue of "The Friends of English Magic" after Strange leaves Norrell, and an equally bitchy rebuttal of those excerpts from Strange's publication "The Famulus" (a footnote in the book says only one issue was every published).

I thought it might be fun to see what kind of nasty mud Norrell and Lascelles and company might fling at Jonathan and his supporters, and vice versa. Especially if the accusations and insinuations keep getting more and more outrageous and ridiculous. (You know, stuff like rumors about magical sexual preferences, shocking personal habits, etc.)

Preferably Segundus/Childermass.

Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! My number one weakness, Sentinel fic <3
And Guide Childermass, what a lovely idea that is! He can look so intimidating, but then his guide powers would be all soothing and alluring and inviting. Ooooh, I love it!

John Childermass/the Raven King - post book AU (book spoilers)

(Anonymous) 2015-07-14 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
So I've been rereading JS&MN books and the scene with Childermass and Raven King gave me feels.
(Spoilers)
On one hand it cracked me up (Childermass threatening to shot the Raven King, basically saying you can't have the body, it's mine). On the other hand, it's kinda sad - Childermass wanted to meet and serve his King, but he didn't get to remember the meeting.
So now I want a fic where Raven King is intrigued - someone threatening him and telling him not to do something? Not only he doesn't remove Childermass' memories, he decides that if this man wants to learn how to read King's Book, who better learn from than King himself? Also, if magic comes back to England, he just might need a new seneschal.
It could be gen fic, but eventual pairing would be awesome.

Honestly, I love any and all fic about the Raven King and his interactions with his human servants. I would love to see him reappearing in Childermass's life. Maybe he thinks he wants Childermass as a seneschal, but he was terribly unhappy when William of Lanchester died. It was such a human feeling, and he was furious that he had to feel it. Now there's a certain reluctance. Also, it's traditional for there to be certain trials. In this case the trials mostly seem to boil down to "can Childermass put up with someone as baffling, irritating, arrogant, and imperious as John Uskglass."

Dealing with John Uskglass's book, of course, is hardly less of a trial.
