This could be gen, het, slash, or poly and I'd be perfectly happy. It hinges on the rebuilding! Whenever there’s a poorly run or ruined house in a story, all I want is for someone to come along and fix it up. Basically I’d love fic which deals with all that: The clearing away of the Gentleman’s rubble, the fixing of the actual walls instead of putting a glamour on them, getting a fire going in the fireplace (dropped branches only so as not to offend local trees), physically scrubbing away centuries of dirt, returning gaudy stuff the Gentleman has stolen, redecorating etc.
It could be a romance where Stephen falls in love with his interior decorator, either author’s choice or an OC. I read a romance novel like that and man, it was satisfying to see that house come together (the romance could’ve been better). Imagine how many interesting variations you could have depending on the choice of partner! Mrs Brandy? Segundus? Arabella?? Reanimated Drawlight???
