I think that perhaps when Childermass was young and poor, he used to sell himself as well as working as a pickpocket. Not an unusual head canon in fandom really, but now I've started wondering what happens after the end of the book. He no longer has an employer. I'm not sure being a magician is particularly profitable at this point and I'm not sure how much practical magic he does for other people. It's implied he doesn't have a lot of money. So what if, to fund himself while he works at learning to read Vinculus, he returns the oldest profession?
What if someone he knows (maybe Segundus but I'm not set on it) finds out? Do they find him on his knees in an alley, or is there an awkward meeting between them both and one of his customers turns up? Or does Chilldermas attempt to seduce the man pointed out to him as a customer only to find its someone he knows?
How would the other person react? Will it all end happily? (By which I think I mean, please let it end happily but feel free to torture them both a bit on the way!)
