Re: Mr Norrell + history of abuse/violence
(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)Canon gives us almost nothing to work on apart from the supposition that someone as fearful and well-defended as Norrell can't have had a perfect childhood. Jonathan Strange had one very bad social experience, of his father, but the kindness he was shown by other people was enough to offset that. Norrell's temperament and/or experiences went towards personal attachment being the exception rather than the rule.
