"Childermass slightly has the appearance of having been dragged down the road." - a favorite line, something about it just...Yes.
"On his skin, he almost feels like he's underwater, but the water is warm. Unlike coming out of warm water, he doesn't feel a chill on his skin when the magic moves away. His body is accustomed to the air right away. Later he will think he should have felt afraid, for he could not move, but in the moment he feels completely safe, somehow like a child, being protected by this familiar stranger." -
THIS this this this, all of this is incredible, i can almost /feel it/ it's described so well. there's a sort of sound that seems to go with it, like water in a brook, and i love it. The idea that the 'stranger' is 'protecting' him is beautiful.
"He kisses him softly on the forehead like he's saying goodnight," this was a one-hit KO just so you know, you got me right in the heart with this line.
but THIS ONE, "He hops off of his horse and walks by his side, half-expecting flowers to spring up where he steps." this is my most favorite line in this whole thing, this is such a lovely image? It makes me smile, imagining that feeling, and just the thought of the flowers. This is amazing.
"Something invisible, and not dirty but not clean either. Something here nor there, something that touches you without touching.
He feels an energy, and a peace he's never known- the assurance that he was doing right and would continue to do so, because his king has given him his fate."
A perfect ending to a perfect scene! Yes, Childermass, not only has your king given you your fate, but he's well-pleased and /cares/ for you- an incredible thought...Childermass spends so much of his effort and energy working for his king, and to see how Uskglass knows that and takes the time to clean and heal Childermass, and try to lessen his fear in the moment, there's a lot of feelings in that, to see him repaid in that way.
