Oh wow I'm so glad you liked it!! Glad to ear my studyin weren't for nowt. I'm really interested in learning more because I think it would be fascinating to do a fic from his perspective all in dialect, seeing as in the show for example he speaks all proper to Norrell but slightly differently to Vinculus, it makes me wonder about how that changes when he thinks to himself or talks to other folk around Yorkshire. I love it because he's obviously become very highly educated and his vocabulary and accent have changed to suit his situation but then he's very connected to his country and I like to think he'd use his childhood slang in moments of drunkenness or arousal or anger or whatever. (And I like to think it would confuse Segundus greatly.)

No need to apologise! I'd love to read more exploring Childermass's identity, as he is in quite a unique position regarding class. In the book it's made clear how his appearance and manners contrast with the regard other 'higher born' people have for him (such as when he tells Segundus he can find wealthy pupils for a non-magical school). His voice/accent would be a lovely way to do that. And the Childervoice is a huge part of his appeal to :)

As a side note, I noticed in the show that Norrell sounds more Yorkshire when he is with Childermass and no one else - particularly noticeable when they are in the carriage on the way to Sir Walter.

Not the OP, but just jumping in to say, as a massive language and dialect nerd, I would be so very up for reading something like this:

I think it would be fascinating to do a fic from his perspective all in dialect

The Yorkshire dialect is one of my favourites ~~especially when it comes from a deep Childermass-like voice~~
