Yes, yes, and yes again!

Something like a shared magical book where they can see what the other is writing perhaps?

I can totally imagine it starting out innocently (like, they need the book to save Childermass from riding up to Starecross every time he needs to speak to Segundus or ask a question about Lady Pole) and ending up as their book of FILTHY SIN.

OP here - YES to a shared book and it starting out innocently and descending into filth (as these things tend to do *aherm*)! And then that awkward moment when they see each other face-to-face for the first time afterwards and not knowing whether to act on it in person or not.
