Let's pretend that it could possibly somehow happen in a parallel universe, that even if Strange was a woman, he would still be able to rise to a powerful social position similar to what a male Strange had. (sad reality is sad)

So he would never marry, but be extremely sisterly close with Arabella anyway, and Henry would be her childhood crush who became her good friend later. And she would wear pants sometimes just because? Eccentric magicians etc. And she would somehow still go to the Peninsula?? (Where she would totally fuck Grant because who wouldn't.)

I also wonder how this would impact her relationship with Norell! Or would there be a relationship between them at all, would he take her as a pupil?

I know all of this is extremely far-fetched, but an anon can hope!

Ooh, I quite like this! I would love to see how Norrell would behave around a female pupil, and how he would be induced to accept one. Seconded most enthusiastically!

Well, given that Strange was born into his high position in society rather than rising to it in any way, it really shouldn't be too hard to have a female version of him in the same situation... In terms of his position as a magician, it all depends (as other anons say) on whether or not Norrell would accept a female student, and then whether or not Wellington would accept a female magician coming into battle.

Both of these situations are unlikely but not impossible- Norrell may well be willing to overlook his sexism if his loneliness at being the only practical magician were even greater, particularly if fem!Strange were to publicly perform some magic so Norrell never gets the chance to dismiss her... And Wellington would probably accept fem!Strange if the war situation was dire enough and Norrell's brand of magic had been shown to be basically useless in war. There'd need to be a bit more explanation of how things ended up the way they did, but it shouldn't be too hard.

I kind of wonder if Norrell wouldn't take her on anyway, out of sheer surprise- he never really seemed like he was intending to take on male!Strange either. Then again, I'd really love to see something like with that ambiguously-named female magician where Norrell is just totally sanguine because it straight-up does not occur to him that a good magician could be a woman. I love this and I could so see it happening!

As long as that first meeting went off with out other company around to point out the obvious, it does seem plausible. Childermass would just let her in, & introduce her as the "Magician Strange" perhaps just for the sheer joy of seeing how long it would take.
